Travelling is hectic. You're rushing to stay on schedule, you're thinking about whatever you're going to do at your destination, and you're trying to remember everything you're going to need. Here are some tips to make your next trip less chaotic.

To avoid packing in a frenzy at 11 p.m. before your 7 a.m. departure, I like to make packing a priority the morning of the day before your trip. It's close enough to your trip that you don't have to worry about packing something you might need before you leave, but early enough that you don't have hundreds of other things on your mind yet. I find that I am much better able to consider everything I am going to need and what outfits I need to pack. Packing my bag in a low stress environment not only clears my head to remember everything I need, but it also prevents "what-if" items from making it in the suitcase. "What if there is a snowstorm and I need a winter coat?" I am not the best under pressure, and I find these irrational thoughts often have me packing an entire closet for a weekend trip. Packing before the stress of leaving hits can take you from a checked suitcase to a carry-on and purse.

Speaking of carry-ons, they're bigger than you think. When flying, I always make a point of checking the airlines carry-on policy. Airlines may differ in the number of carry-ons and personal items they allow each guest. It may seem inconvenient on longer trips but, by packing a little lighter you could save a lot of time and money. Even if your airline doesn't charge for checked bags, you always run the risk or losing your suitcase when you part with it. The extra cash from not paying for a checked bag plus the security of always having you bag in your possession is definitely worth sacrificing packing a couple pairs of shoes.

Lastly, when travelling by car, I highly recommend car-pulling whenever it's possible for three reasons. First off, gas is expensive! You can save a lot of money by driving with someone and only having to pay half. I know I prefer spending thirty dollars on a night out rather than the just the transportation it takes to get out. Second, another person in the car means another person can check directions or verify starting times of any events you're attending. I always feel less stressed when there is only one thing I am trying to focus on. Lastly, talking with somebody is a much safer method to staying awake at the wheel than chewing gum or eating spicy food. Plus, you may make a new friend.
